The Dolgans Destiny exibit took place between 20 January to 7 March 2016 at the Museum of Man (Musée de l’Homme) in Paris. Spectators were exposed to 70 black and white images of French photographer and journalist Nicolas Mingasson depicting the undiscovered culture of the North Taimyr region, the Russian Arctic.
The photographic exhibition of Nicolas Mingasson was a rare opportunity to discover the little known society: “I wanted to illustrate the daily life of the Dolgans in its diversity. In the streets of the villages, young people dress (almost) as in France, in the evening they call their cousins on Skype, who’ve gone far to the south and when the weekend comes they visit their grandparents by skidoo”.
The Dolgans of the Northern Taimyr (Siberia) are among the most isolated populations in the Russian Arctic. While a large part of the population inhabit as sedentary reindeer herders, some families still live as nomads with herds.
